Aegirine

Aegirine crystal is also known as Acmite and is found in igneous and volcanic rock. It's often confused by the inexperienced collector with black tourmaline but is a completely different and rare crystal. Aegirine mineral can be distinguished by its dark green hue and striations. The crystal was first discovered in Norway and was named after Aegir, the Norse god of the sea who was revered by sailors. Aegir was a personification of the sea, feared by sailors who underwent very dangerous sailing trips at the time. Offerings would be made to Aegir in order to appease the sea god and bring good luck on their sea voyages.
